The Weekly Grind - February 6th, 2023 Newsletter

Let me start this off by saying Thank You. We are so humbled by the love and support we have received in the last few days. The shares of our page, the donations to the gofundme, the reviews, the new businesses we've started to work with, and all of the new customers that came out of it has made the anxiety of being so vulnerable worth it. It was so difficult to make that post on Thursday that after I posted it, I closed my computer and ran away. I am grateful for each and every one of you. You have made us feel so loved and welcomed in this community.

We have a lot of exciting events coming up.

FEBRUARY

Wednesday, February 8th we will be back at Flight Tasting Room & Bottle Shoppe in Yorkville. This is an all-ages event. They even have Root Beer on draft! How cool is that!?

This will be our first Magic the Gathering Draft Tournament. It's $15 to participate and there will be prizes for the winner.

Sunday we'll be hosting a Terrain Workshop. For this first one we'll be learning how to make Dungeon and Castle Walls & Floors. It's $5.00 to participate and all materials and instruction will be provided.

Join us for our second Company Spotlight Event. Calliope Games will be at the cafe teaching people how to play many of their older and newer games, as well as demoing their newest game, Four Corners, that's currently on Kickstarter.

Enjoy the musical stylings of local musician Demi Clara. She will be here on February 19th singing some covers and originals. This event is free but tipping the performer is highly encouraged.

MARCH

In honor of Women's history month, a majority of our events in March will be highlighting women-owned businesses. Celebrate the women in your life!

NEW:

Our beautiful friend, Jay Borsom is the owner of Liquid Kourage Entertainment and she will be hosting a Stream-A-Thon on March 4th. She'll be set up here at the cafe for 12 hours doing her live stream on Twitch hosting games, guests, and all sorts of fun shenanigans. Stop in the cafe to participate, or stream it from Twitch! More information will follow. Check our socials for the event in the next day or two.

Join us for our first Local Pride Gaymer Meetup. Unfortunately, I jumped the gun with the date and some of the pride groups' board members can't make it, but we will have information for the surrounding groups and their events. Meet other gaymers, play some games, and pick up information!

NEW:

Join us for our first monthly trivia night. The lovely Jay from Liquid Kourage Entertainment will be running Nerdy Trivia for us! Bring a team and bring your phones charged because you'll need them.

NEW:

Sweet Traditions will be here on Sunday, March 12th for a Pop-Up Baked Goods event from 11am to 5pm on Sunday, March 12th.

LADIES! Mark Your calendars for Sunday, March 19th. Details are still being finalized but we'll be hosting a Women's Showcase. Multiple women musicians and women-owned businesses will be featured here at Critical Grind. We will also have little goodie bags to the first X-number of female-identifying people in the door. (Number to be determined). The goodie bags will have coupons from local women-owned businesses like Posh West Boutique, Bliss Hair Salon, and Blush Lash Studio, and more. If you are a female business owner and would like to provide something to the goodie bags, please reach out to me via email dana@criticalgrind.com

Don't forget we have our homeschooling & stay at home family meetups every Tuesday & Thursday from 10am - 2pm.

We recently started a Little Library where people are welcome to take a book or leave a book. There are already several mystery, fantasy, and YA added to the shelves.

If you're feeling adventurous, you can ROLL FOR TOAST. Let the dice fates decide what you'll be eating by rolling for your toppings. We've had some very interesting results so far. Marshmallow, Banana & chocolate sauce.... Butter, Blackberries, Basil... Cream Cheese, Strawberries, Balsamic, and Basil... Marshmallow, Apples, Walnuts, Balsamic, and Tajin. It's a good time.

(and yes we allow for re-rolls)
